Three representatives from the Ballinlea Residents Group attended the “2030 Vision – The Future of Energy in Ireland” conference on Thursday 19th September. the event was organised by the Good Energies Alliance Ireland and took place at the Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon.

Some very interesting and informative material was presented, most notably by Keynote Speaker Deborah Rogers of the Energy Policy Forum, Fort Worth, Texas (see link to ‘The Pat Kenny Show’ interview above) and Eamon Ryan, Leader of the Green Party in the ROI.  The speakers represented a cross section of views both pro and anti oil exploration in Ireland.

The conference was directed at Public Representatives, Local Authority Members and Officials, and Decision-makers nationally to provide an overview of the choices facing Ireland as we move into a future that is very different and with huge implications for sustainable development.

This conference examined some of the key issues around the choices Ireland has to make at this time.
Key topics of discussion included:
•         2030 – A different World, a different Vision
•         Sustainable Energies and Market Needs-Bridging the Gap
•         Wind Energy and Policy
•         The Economics of Unconventional Gas Development
